Official programme of Pope Francis' visit to World Youth Day

Two months before World Youth Day (WYD), the programme for Pope Francis' visit to Lisbon was presented on June 6th. "We are ready", said Carlos Moedas.

On July 9th, the altar will be ready, declared the mayor of Lisbon during the presentation at Estufa Fria, in the presence of the Cardinal-Patriarch of Lisbon, Manuel Clemente, and Bishop Américo Aguiar. By the end of June, he added, the pedestrian overpass will also be ready.

WYD will be held from August 1st to 6th, but Pope Francis' visit will take place between August 2nd and 6th.

During these days, he will meet refugee students, WYD volunteers, representatives of other religions and disadvantaged children.

The ceremonial meetings will take place on August 2nd, the day of the Pope’s arrival. On the morning of August 3rd, Pope Francis will meet refugee students who have been welcomed at the Catholic University of Portugal.

On August 5th, he will travel to Fatima, one of Pope Francis' favourite places during his visits to Portugal.

The Pope's last commitment, before returning to Rome, will be meeting the WYD volunteers to thank them for their valuable efforts and contribution towards World Youth Day.
