The municipality provides over 100 spaces for the World Youth Day
In order to welcome pilgrims to Lisbon for World Youth Day (WYD), 113 spaces will be made available by Lisbon City Council (CML): 110 schools, Casa dos Direitos Sociais, Alto do Lumiar Sports Pavilion and Moniz Pereira Running Track.
The protocol that has made available the use of the spaces was signed on July 20th between the municipality and Construção Pública (formerly Parque Escolar) at the Francisco Arruda primary school in Alcântara, at a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, and the President of the WYD Foundation, Bishop Américo Aguiar.
Thanks to this protocol, the CML will be able to guarantee the stay of around 42,000 pilgrims about to arrive in the city. For the Mayor, this agreement will enable the city's schools to accommodate "around 40% of the youths who will come to Lisbon”.
Lisbon will be ready 24 hours a day to welcome everybody with open arms and a big smile, but always with great concern”, assured Carlos Moedas”.
